OSX lion and Mountain Lion – flush cache the hard way….

Until now I used ‘dscacheutil -flushcache’ to flush my cache.. When one develops sites the cache is the time consuming factor in this flow. However.. it did not work anymore. Although, not fast enough for me, so I was looking and found the following command on the apple site itself (rtfm ? ) :

 sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

This one worked like a charm.. Please update your development hours with this 1 command.

One day, we all can free our fringers from typing on QWERTY keyboard as we can use our Brain to type in the future. NTPD update linux

On RHEL/CentOS you can force ntpd to syncronize on service startup by doing the following:

# vi /etc/sysconfig/ntpd

There is an OPTIONS variable with something like:

OPTIONS=”-u ntp:ntp -p /var/run/”

Add the -x parameter:

OPTION=”-x -u ntp:ntp -p /var/run/”

You may also want to set SYNC_HWCLOCK option to “yes”, in order to also syncronize hardware clock.

Then restart the service:

# service ntpd restart

The ntp daemon will be forced to resync every time you restart the service.
